My Photography blog

Note: I created a photography blog in July 2016 and kept it till March 2019, for almost three years. However, I decided to delete it recently, because I wasn't able to maintain it and post consistently. All the content on my photography blog has been embedded here so that people can still have a look at it. :) For more art (and photography) you can subscribe to this blog.

7/16/16: Shots I took for a photography workshop

Just recently, we attended a three-day workshop on Photography. It was wonderful, and we learnt a lot of principles and elements of good photographs, eg. catchlights (in portraits), rule of thirds, etc.

Here I am sharing (some) of the shots-good ones- which I took for the workshop. Most of them I took for home assignments.

We had to take a depth and perspective shot. I decided to
do something totally unique: I went on top of these slides
and took a picture from there. I wasn't sure how it would
turn out but it looks, well, nice.

We also had to take a night shot. I captured
these lamps against the night sky. I
really like this one.

A turkey. (We had to take two-rule-of-thirds-shots and the
head of the turkey(which was my main focus) is off-center.)
I found its head and beak really interesting, so I decided
to capture those. (It was kinda difficult, because the bird
wouldn't stay still).

A lovely pink rose, in full bloom(the rule of thirds, again).
A friend's shoes. They make a rather interesting subject,
don't they?

7/16/16: Photographing rain

Rain drops caught on the iron rod of my bedroom window.
I captured this from inside the net of the window to prevent
my lens from getting wet.

I captured a staircase with the water flowing
downwards(A rare sight, since it's almost
always dry and hot)

7/16/16: Plant photography

I was really intrigued by this baby
aloe vera plant growing out of the
edge of a flowerpot.

I really liked these pretty lavender-colored flowers, and although
this is not a close-up, I think it looks good.

8/14/16: More plant photography

In this photo I have
 tried to create a contrast
in colour with the white flowers
against green surroundings.

I loved these light and dark pink flowers growing
together so I took a shot of them

11/23/16: Sun, Sand, and Sea

A couple of weeks ago we went on this great day-long trip to the beach(which included boating and fishing). We all had lots of fun. I decided to capture the trip by taking some photographs. So here I am with the best ones.

2/26/17: Photographs I took last weekend

Here are some photographs I took last weekend. I took these with a mobile phone camera and so the picture-quality is not very good. :(

4/28/17: Photographs I took at Ziarat

We visited Quetta and Ziarat a few weeks ago. Ziarat is an extremely peaceful place, and I immediately understood why Quaid e Azam chose to live there. Here are a few photographs I took in Ziarat.

Cherry blossoms

Ladybugs! We saw a lot of tiny ladybugs in
Ziarat.

5/11/17: Three things I learnt while photographing for Clayholds

Me and my siblings recently started our own start-up, Clayholds. Ever since we've started, I have been the Product photographer, most of the times. :) Here are three very important things I learnt while photographing our products:

1. Eliminating background distractions
This is something very important I learnt while photographing our company's products. It is not a very good idea to have vibrant colours, movement, or even a mirror in the background, especially when photographing an object painted in light hues. This might distract the viewer. Having simple backgrounds for my photographs has always worked for me.

2. Establishing focal point
I have always tried to ensure that the object I am photographing stays the focal point of the picture. Something added as an interesting element to the framing of a picture must not distract a viewer's attention from the focus of the picture. Using coordinating colours instead of contrasting colours is sometimes a good idea because it produces visual harmony.

3. Flash may not be the key
Using flash has not always worked for me. I think flash creates an artificial effect and makes pictures too bright, losing true colours. Photographing an object in natural light instead has produced better results for me, most of the times. However, I always take a few shots with the flash on too, because sometimes it does give a good effect.

1/10/18: Nature photography - exploring textures, perspectives and flowers

I'm back guys! I'm sorry for being so inactive here for such a long time, but I'll try to post as often as I can now! :)
So here is some nature photography. I took most of these a couple of weeks ago but some of these are from earlier last year. In these shots I was experimenting randomly with textures, perspectives, and flowers; (of course!) hence the post title. :D

I'll start with a couple of depth and perspective shots. This is one I took a long time ago but never came around to post here. Its also one of my favorites among all of my photography.:)

Another perspective shot attempt..I took this recently in a park.

Then here are some textures I explored with..

And...flowers.

Another one of my favorite shots...

A lovely orange rose...the lighting and background here is
artificial though...

6/24/18: Pictures I took in Sharda, Neelum Valley

As I mentioned in a post on my writing blog, I recently visited Sharda, a small village in Neelum Valley. :) Sharda is one of the most beautiful locations in Azad Kashmir, the lush green mountainous area situated in the very north of Pakistan, also known as heaven on earth (this is no exaggeration, Kashmir is that beautiful).

So here are some shots I took in this picturesque valley. Enjoy having a look and let me know what you think of these in the comments below! :)

In the distance you could see mountain peaks
covered with snow, the snow, sometimes
blending into the pale blue sky.

The wonderful River Neelum

The sky was SO unbelievably blue, the clouds perfectly fluffy...
now that I look at the pictures the place seems almost
magical..

Such sights hurt me physically...I hate to see the packaged
food industry, bottled water companies and multinationals
like Nestle ruin the landscape in such beautiful places..:(

At night it was perfect bonfire weather. On our last night
in Sharda, we got an oppurtunity to do that as well. :)

Disclaimer: I do not deserve the credits for any good shots. The beauty of the land and the picturesque landscape deserve all credits for good pictures, which, of course, fail to do justice to Neelum Valley.

Thanks for reading!
