How to draw Figures and Faces

Some say I'm good at drawing people. I decided to post a tutorial for those who want to learn how to make better figures.

If you want to draw a self portrait, it is best to use a mirror. A photo would do too. If you want to draw someone else or a character of a movie, use a photo or image for reference.
Get people to pose for you so you can draw them.(though most people are reluctant when you ask them to pose for you so it's better to sneak up with your sketch pad when nobody's looking!)

I usually draw on white paper on my sketch pad. Whatever you do, make sure your drawings are compiled so don't use loose pages.
Start with a notebook and a black pointer.
1.Make the face, and the beginning of the neck. Make sure the face is oval.
Most people have oval shaped faces, though if you are drawing a circle-faced                                                                                                                    person draw a round face!
2. Make the hair. Do not do the details yet. I'm going to make braided hair so I've began the braid.
3. Make the eyebrows and color them in. Draw the outline for the eyes. Draw little lines on the top and bottom of the outline for eyelashes.

4. Draw the eyeballs, leaving little white spaces for the reflection of light.
(Kenza told this in a tutorial on her blog)
5. Make the nose a slight curve. Make the rest of the hair and any hair acessories.

6. The Lips! The part where I usually fail in! Draw the upper lip first, with a curve in the middle.

7. The bottom lip is very simple. Draw it.

8. Draw the clothes. For this girl I'm drawing a simple shirt.

9. Add the finishing touches. Your drawing is ready!

  1. This is awesome!! :D It's great to see how you do style of your drawings by looking at this tutorial. I love the way you draw braids too! And I'm so glad my tutorial helped with the lighting on the eye. ^^

I also find it helps to draw a vertical line and horizontal line when drawing OCs (in pencil) and then rub it out afterwards. But it's entirely up to you (not everyone does it XD).

Keep up the awesome work! <3
